"My name is Yaw Adzovie. I was born on August 1, 1968, in the Volta Region of Ghana. I had my formal education at a Roman Catholic School and attained my diploma in 1985. I was an outgoing and disciplined student. I was interested in art as a child because my uncle was a carver.
"Upon completing school, I had my training in wood carving with my uncle, whose name is Kwame Adzovie. I was with him for three years. After that he asked me to go out on my own so I would be independent and take up my responsibilities as an adult.
"I use specific types of wood for my work: ebony, teak, and rose. I measure to specification and then proceed to cut the wood and then use my various instruments to chip the wood until I have the image I want. I use chisel, vice, hand saw, and other special tools for my work.
"I've been on my own since 1996. I have the inspiration from my inner spirit which drives me to work harder to achieve a certain standard."
"I'm married and have two kids. Both of them are in school. There is a girl; she's six and I have a boy who is three."
