Wayan Agus Suarjaya

"I was born on December 14, as the first of two children. My father is Wayan Suarka and my mother is Wayan Ratni. I began to paint when I was ten years old when my uncle Ketut Tuyasa taught me how to paint a diversity of flora and fauna. Then one day, while driving my father's car I had an accident and a person died. I was in shock. I began to experience hallucinations and nightmares. I was stressed out and needed someone to talk to, but I didn't know how to say what I felt.

"I realized eventually that I could express my feelings through my paintings. Words can't help me express what is on my mind, but my heart can guide my hand to play with brushes and colors." The artist also speaks through his fanciful wood sculptures with polychrome motifs.
