Ravi Kumar

"Hello, my name is Ravi Kumar and I was born and raised in Jaipur. I originally learned the art of woodcarving as a hobby that my uncle taught me. I began at a very young age. I'd rush to his workshop after school and learned all I could. By the time I finished 10th standard, I decided to pursue a career in wood art.

"I studied this art form for five more years, after which I set up my own workshop. My favorite pieces to work on are chess pawns and all kinds of animals. Working on my own and getting recognized is a slow process, but it's also fun. Now I count on the assistance of a team of talented carvers to help me meet the demand for my products.

"Each piece I carve is unique and I love each stage of the crafting process. What began as a hobby for me has become my passion and my vocation. I have been exhibiting my work at various showrooms and art fairs, and people's response to my work is one of genuine appreciation. I know some of my designs have traveled to different countries.

"My wife is a great source of inspiration for me, and she is very supportive. She'll sometimes join me in the workshop and help polish the pieces.
