'Kebyar Dance I,' statuettes (pair)

Their bodies sway to the music's mood while remaining seated in the graceful Kebyar dance. Both dancers wear costumes graced with delicate detail, eloquently captured by Nyoman Suwita. Working with hibiscus wood, Suwita recreates the performance with striking artistry - he almost brings to life this hand-carved couple. Makes for an original gift for the admirer of the performing arts.

Mario, one of Bali's most revered dancers, created this dance in the 1930's, characterized by maintaining a sitting position throughout the performance. Movement is dictated by the Gamelan's inviting melodies, thus a dancer is required to play each instrument and develop a feel in order to recreate the engaging movements on cue.
