"I'm Sabine Kunckel. I was born in Germany on November 18, 1961 to a German mother and Peruvian father. When I was a little girl, they brought me to this warm and beautiful country that received us with much love. We never moved back to Germany, but remained in this wonderful place.
"When I was 17, I went to Germany to study hotel management and I worked in gastronomy. I married a German man and had children, but I couldn't stop thinking about what I'd left behind in my beloved Peru. Finally, in 1988, we all moved to Peru.
"I began working with handicrafts because my father in law's business was dedicated to art. I loved to see the beauty of this country's vast art and culture and, finally, I took some courses so I could create my own designs.
"To create a piece is to break free from the traditional and demonstrate that we can do a thousand things with all the materials we have here. I like to combine colors. It is so important, and seeing how they leap into sight on clear surfaces, I find inspiration in natural objects with very fine finishing.
"I love design. I'm waiting until my children are older to do this full time. I work with a team of artisans who help me craft what I want. I don't lose sight of a piece from the beginning until the final steps, staying close to what I wanted, the way I wanted it."
