Reintegrate Foundation

The Reintegrate Foundation was born in 1990. It is made up of altruistic professionals who offer legal support, social aid and psychological help to people who have committed a minor crime and their families. They also offer this assistance to people in the community who need it. At the same time, they organize workshops to teach these people a trade so that they can reintegrate themselves into society and support themselves economically.

Specifically, the foundation offers classes in crafting dolls and nativity scenes to former prisoners and their families.

Currently, eight craftspeople create the nativity scenes, beginning with molding the clay through the delicate details of painting each piece by hand. These skills were achieved over time through much effort, dedication and practice. Today, their work shows a quality that few others can equal. These particular artisans are neither ex-convicts nor paroled prisoners, but residents of the village of San Agustín. Through the foundation, they found an opportunity to develop their artistic skills and work in a harmonious, family-like ambience.

Each figure they craft has a story to tell, as they represent Mexico through colors, shapes and customs.
