Juan Modesto Peña

"Hola. I was born in Guadalajara where I studied industrial design. In 1984, I opened a workshop in a city nearby where I work in high fired ceramics. In 1995, I began opening my workshop to students of industrial design, giving then orientation and serving as a consultant for their projects in this beautiful type of ceramics.

"I first became interested in ceramics when I was a student myself. I was working on a project to create tiles, and that was when I decided that my professional life would involve this wonderful craft.

"My love for stoneware ceramic and my passion for design have brought me great satisfaction, and I share my work in exhibits. Since 1990, I've been awarded prizes on the state and national level.

"For me, my work has a magical meaning as I transform three natural elements – earth, water and fire – into formally balanced objects that beautify the interior spaces we inhabit."
